Lavon Dison, who hired me as a proofreader in 1980. He taught me more about the art of typography than I could have learned in a doctoral program at any college. I still read every job as if Lavon were doing the final check-out. We worked together for eleven years, first at Automated Productions, Inc. (a subsidiary of Bloom Advertising), and later at The Type & Stat Place.
Jean Armstrong, "Counter of the Beans," delivery person, roommate, business partner, and strongest supporter. When I said, "It's time for me to go freelance," she never flinched.
David Harmon, who

all
the English teachers who taught me grammar, spelling, syntax, sentence
structure, and a love for the language ... my late sister, Ladye
Sparks, who challenged me constantly ... my late mother, who taught
me to read at the age of four and never tried to curtail my choice of
reading
matter ... and all my client/friends.
And last but not least, two groups:
I sincerely appreciate you all!
